Two diseases that are associated with specific HLA types. Report your findings below; each description should include which HLA antigen is associated and the specific effect on the patient?
There are number of diseases which are associated with HLA the diaseases are both infectious and non infectious in nature.Eg graves disease, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis,Rheumatoid arthrities, systematic lupus erythematosus.
Graves diasease
It is an autoimmune thyroid disease which result in overproduction of thyroid hormone. In this enlargment of thyroid occur.
This disease is associated with HLA class II DR3 type. The amino acid (arginine) substitution at position 74 of beta 1 chain DR of HLA DR3 incraese the susceptibility to graves diasease.
SYMPTOMS
Many of signs and symptopms of graves diasease overlap with hyperthyroidism.
>anxiety and irrritability
>insomnia
>hand triemor
>enlargment of thyroid gland (goiter)
>buldging eyes
>Rapid and irregular heart beat
SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS (SLE)
It is the autoimmune diasease in which autoantibodies develops against self nuclear and cytoplasmic antigens of body.
HLA class II are associated with this diasease
haplotypes bearing the DRB1*03:01, DQB1*02:01 and the DRB1*15:01, DQB1*06:02 alleles 65 %people bearing these haplotypes are suffered with this diasease.
It is proved that DRB1*03:01 allele carries a higher risk than the DRB1*15:01.Homozygous individuals is highest risk of SLE.
SYMPTOMS
>chest pain during respiration
>skin rash -butterfly rash in face
>joint pain
>oral ulcer
>fatique
>senstivity to sunlight
