LP03.1 Assignment: Nursing Licensure
Directions: In a paper no longer than 1 page, discuss the following:
Choose a state (it can be the state in which you live or some other state) and do a web search to find the state agency or board that licenses nurses in that state. Then, summarize the licensure requirements for nurses in that state. Also, summarize the methods used to license out-of-state nurses who wish to work in that state.
Nurse Licensure
The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) Florida, USA
It started recently on 18th Jan, 2018. It includes both Registered nurses as well as licensed practical nurses. The fees for registering is $100. One can get the license by either giving the examination or by endorsement. To get the license of Nurse assistant, one needs to fulfill the following requirements to appear for an examination. A minimum age of 18 with a high school diploma or an equivalent degree, has completed basic session under the Florida scool of nursing and scored a minimum required score set up by the Enterprise Florida jobs and rule of the board. The examination consists of a written test and skills-demonstration oral test which is approved by the the school of nursing and administered by personnel approved by the department.
If an applicant fails the examination thrice then he is not eligible for reexamination until he/she finishes his training under Florida school of nursing. There are also certain basic guidelines for applicants with criminal history or health care fraud to appaear for this examination. After successfully passing both stages of this examination, the name of the apllicant will be placed on the nursing assitant registry within 14 days. The procedure for obtaing the license for out of state nurses who wish to work in Florida remains same.
