1) After meeting needs for oxygenation, next priority is meeting of basic needs in daily living such as.

• Needs for maintaining nutritional status by providing food.

• Needs for maintaining hydration status by providing water.

•Needs for maintaining personal hygiene of the patient.

•Needs for adequate sleeping, safety and security.

2) Health status affects the meeting of basic needs.such as,

•If the patient is suffering from severe depression, she denies intake of food or performing any daily living activities.

• when a patient is suffering from stroke, unconsciousness ,he is unable to meet basic needs.

•When the Patient is suffering from severe vomiting, unable to food, fluid intake.

• Post operative Patient is also unable to meet their basic needs.

3) Actions are taken by the nurse.

a. Provide ryles tube feeding, who cannot take food through mouth.

b. IV infusion should be provided to maintain hydration status.

c. The Patient , suffering from depression, provide mental support and food should be given as patient choice and an attractive manner.

d. Intake output chart is maintained by the nurse.

e. Catheterisation, colostomy should be done who cannot pass bowel and bladder normally.

f.Back care, bed bath , mouth care, nail care should be given.

g. Simple ROM exercise should be provided.

h. Calm and comfortable environment should be provided for adequate sleeping.
