Federal relations refer to the distribution of power between the Federal government and states or local governments. US political system is based on the Federal system where relatively more powers have been conferred upon the state and local government. it helps to make the diversities and states or local governments are successful in addressing their issues appropriately. State or local governments take their rights seriously and do not allow federal government to infringe upon their rights.

But over the course of time, Federal government interventions in state or local governments have increased significantly, specifically, during the economic recession. Federal government extended economic help to state or local governments and intervened in area where only state governments were allowed. Likewise, by making the gun law, Federal government entered into jurisdiction of state government, later on, it was declared as unconstitutional by the Supreme court. Now influence of federal government is rising day by day, states have scarce resources to meet their rising needs.
