LaVeist tells us "equality is the goal to be achieved when providing health care to racial and ethnic minorities"
2. Why do Health status and Health care Disparities matter? Based upon the disparities across the life span, how can we address this equality goal?
Health status and health care disparities matter because redusing health disparities will give everyone an equal opportunity to have a healthy and better life; Health security for all regardless of socioeconomic characteristics. We can address this equality goal by spreading knowledge and awareness to all individuals and make them understand the importance of health fairness. Individuals and Families can involve themselves in working together as a community through prevention efforts and use community resources to improve the ability to read, understand, and use health information. CDC’s Office of Minority Health and Health Equity published related Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report in 2016 highlight effective public health programs for addressing health disparities. Implementing evidence-based programs that advance health equity can help ensure that all people have the chance for long and healthy lives. Public health professionals and community workers can create and implement policies for reducing health disparities. Health Care Systems can improve the cultural and communication competence of health care providers. Train and hire more qualified staff from underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities and people with disabilities. Governments can gather data and identify populations that have greatest risk and work with communities to implement policies and programs that address highest priority needs. They should improve coordination and opportunities by engaging community leaders and members in prevention of health disparities.
