Explain the following four (4) major types of cellular adaptation given in the table (in 30-50 words each). Types Cellular adaptation Description
Cellular adaptation is a kind of adaptation made by cells in response to adverse or unfavorable environment. It is a kind of change made by cell to tackle the changed environment.
There are types of adaptation:
1.Pathological adaptation: It shares the same underlying mechanisms, but they provides the cell with the aviabil to survive in their environment and perhaps escape injury.
2. Cellular adaptation: It is a state lies intermediate between the normal, unstressed cell and the injured overstressed cell.
These are subdivided:
a) Hyperplasia : Increase in number of cell in an organ or tissue, which may then have increased volume.
b) Hypertrophy: It is increase in size of cell which results into increase in the size of organ.
i) Physiological
ii) Pathological
c) Atrophy: In this case there is acquired loss of reduction in size of the cell due to parenchyma cells.
d) Metaplasia : It is reversible change in the size of the cell and can become in it original state. One adult type cell is replaced by another cell.
