compare and contrast the 4 major tissue types
There are Four types of Tissue found in animals
1. Epithelial Tissue - Epithelial tissues line body surfaces and cavities, as well as form glands. Epithelia contain no blood vessels (they are non-vascular) and are dependent upon the underlying connective tissue for nutrients. Epithelial cells can be one of three shapes: squamous (flattened), cuboidal, or columnar.
2. Nervous Tissue - Neurons are specialised cells that carries nerve impulse. Nerve tissue is made of neurons and neuroglia cells. Ordinary connective tissue is absent inside the central nervous system, the neurons are held together by supportive cells called Neuroglia Cells. Nerve impulses pass between neurons through the synapse with the help of chemicals such as acetylcholine which are termed Neurotransmitters.
3. Connective Tissue - Connective tissue are deried from Mesoderm. on the basis of matrix connective tissue is of three types a
a. Connective Tissue proper - matrix soft and fibrous
Looese Connective tissue - example Adipose Tissue, Areolar Tissue
Dense Connective Tissue - Tendon and Ligaments, white fibrous tissue amd reticular Tissue.
b. Connective Tissue Skeleton - Dense and mineralised matrix. due to deposotion of minerals it becomes hard.
Cartlage and Bones
Carilage is also three types - Hyaline Cartilage, Elastic Cartilage and White firous cartilage.
c. Connective Tissue vascular - Liquid and fibres free matrix.
Blood
4. Muscular Tissue - Muscle tissue is specialized for contraction. The cells are elongated, and are also known as muscle fibers. They contain the contractile proteins actin and myosin , which interact to shorten and elongate the cells This specialised property is called Contractility. There are three different types of muscle tissue: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth.depending upon location and function.
Skeletal Muscle is found in associated with our skseletal system and helps in movement of body. these mucle are voluntry in nature. these are called straited due to presence of strations/ bands due to actin and myosin fibres. these are branched muscle.
Smooth Muscle - these are appers to be smooth due to lack of strations. these muscles are found in visceral orgnns, controlled by autonomous nervous system. these muscles are called as involuntry as these muscle cant be controlled by our will power. muscles with tapering ends.
Cardiac Muscle - Cardiac muscle are specialed muscle found only on heart wall. these muscle are invluntry in nature. are do not fatigue.
