HOMEOSTASIS

It refers to maintenance of constant internal environment of the body.

homeo= same

stasis= standing

Disease= It occurs when homeostasis mechanism is disrupted in the body.

For the normal healthy living of large organisms including human beings depends upon the constant maintenance of internal environment within physiological limits.

IF the internal environment of the body deviates beyond the set limits body suffers from malfunction or dysfunction and disease,therefore ultimate goal of any individual is that to maintain normal homeostasis.

Many systems are involved in homeostatic mechanism of each function,some of the functions in which homeostatic mechanism is well established are

1. Body temperature- body temperature should be maintained at 37.5 degree celsius ,if it is hot outside we will sweat and if it is cold we will shiver , at that time our hypothlamus will rececive negative feed back from the body and it maintain the body tempreature., if homeostasis mechanisms are not working properly in the internal enviroment and the individual will feel more cold or hot at that time

example....fever..in this homeostasis of body is disrupted due to virus so the individual shiver during high fever.

2. Body sugar....by homeostasis body sugar is maintained,if is blood sugar level is disrupted it will lead to many disease in body

example....Diabetes- this diabetes aftects homeostasis by disrupting blood sugar level and water regulation ,both which are vital for the human body

3. Water and electrolyte balance ...this should be maintained otherwise it leads to dehydration and toxicity and alteration in the osmolality of the body fluids,which lead to many diseases.

4.PH of the ECF has to be maintained at the critical value of 7.4 ,the tissues cannot survive if it is altered ,the decrease in ph will lead to acidosis ,ind increase in ph will lead to alkalosis in the body.

COMPONENTS OF THE HOMEOSTATIC SYSTEM

1.detectors

2.disruptors

3 control system

4.effectors

These 4 components f the homeostactic system will maintain the body in any altered condtions,if the Homeostatic system is disrupted it will lead to disease in the body.
