how does kuhn respond to lakatos' critique? and what role do his 5 criteria play in this response? to what extent does kuhn restore rationality and objectivity to his account?
Main critique was relativism, of which kuhn was charged of. Kuhn said the science travels through various scientific revolutions with passage of time. These revolutions can be due to continuous efforts of scientists in approval of theories that come forward as a result of either natural selection or mutations. and may lead to transformation of previous theories in certain field.
Theory of science emerge as a result of these scientific revolutions.
In response to lakato's views he claimed five criteria, which make a theory worthy to be chosen:
Accuracy, Consistency of theory with other related theories, simplicity of expression, fruitfulness that can lead to some conclusion, broad area covered under study.
Kuhn explained the worthiness of any theory can be estimated using these 5 points. He said that there is no measurement to measure paradigm. And as there is wide difference between conceptual and experimental observations, these two cannot agree always to exactly same answer.
