What role does the liver play in digestion (list and explain 3 or more things the liver does)? What happens to the body if the liver is not functioning well?
Liver play a vital role in human body. There are many functions of liver in digestion which are as follows-
1. Protein metaboliam
2.Storage
3. Carbohydrate metabolism
4. Lipids metabolism
5. Formation of bile
6. Drug inactivation
7. Hormone inactivation
8. Immuniological function of liver
Explanation of 3are which are main -
1. Production of bile- liver synthesize bile and secrete into the gall bladder. Bile help in absoption and digestion of fat, without which fat cannot be absorbed.
2 carbohydrate metabolism- when there is excess carbohydrate in body it is converted to glycogen and stored by liver. During fasting liver breakdown the glycogen which is called glycogenolysis. Liver can also make glucose available for the body during lack condition.
3.Fat metabolism- liver produce chloestrol and very low density lipoproteins and high density lipoprotein which is involve in breakdown of fat during starvation.
If liver is not functioning well which is life threating and needs urgent medical care and show many symptoms in body like - jaundice, chronic fatique, dark colour urine, decreased appetite, nausea, weight loss, weakness, vomiting, swelling around the eyes, belly.
