Question 2-Also can a newborn baby acquire Hepatitis B virus from an infected mother during breastfeeding even if the child has taken the the 1st phase of the vaccine (out of the three)?
Question3- What is the difference between Periodontitis and Gingivitis? Does one of them lead to the other?
Question 1
Babies born to mothers with hepatitis B are at greater risk to get infected with hepatitis B. Hepatitis B is not transmitted from mother to the unborn baby but the baby can be infected by the hepatitis B virus during birth via vaginal delivery or C section delivery. Hepatitis B is a highly contagious disease and is spread by coming in contact with semen, blood and other body fluid discharge of infected person.
Question 2
As soon as the baby is born to a diseased mother the baby is immunized by the first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine. The transmission of the hepatitis B virus from mother to offspring via breastfeeding is negligible once the infant has received the first dose of HBIG/HBV vaccine. This vaccine reduces more than 90% chances of infection.
Question 3
Gingivitis: -A layer of bacteria grows on teeth and builds up the plague which leads to inflammation of gum and bleeding in severe cases. If gingivitis is left untreated then it progresses to cause periodontitis. This condition is also called as gum inflammation.
Periodontitis:-It is a condition in which the gums and periodontal supporting the tooth get inflamed. This condition arises when a layer of bacteria and food particles get accumulated and form plague . The periodontal bacteria then get pathogenic and triggers an inflammatory response. The condition leads to chronic inflammation which less to bleeding gums followed by loss of teeth in severe condition. This condition is called gum disease.
Gingivitis gum inflammation leads to periodontitis which is gum disease.
