1. Your patient has received 50ml of D10W with his medication. You are worried about the patients high glucose level and want to calculate how much dextrose in grams he has received
2.The order is for 150ml of 0.45% NS. How many grams of sodium will the patient receive?
ROOUND TO THE NEAREST 10TH.
3.Your patient is getting 250ml per hour of D51/2NS
How many grams of dextrose will he get in 4 hours?
1 - In 1000ml of D10 dextrose level is 100 grams
ie in 50 ml dextrose quantity will be 5 grams
The answer is the patient has received 5 grams of dextrose
2 - In 1000ml of 0.45% NS the sodium level is 4.5 grams
ie in 100 ml the sodium level will be 0.45 grams
In 150 ml of 0.45% NS the sodium level will be 0.675 grams
The answer is that the patient will receive 0.675grams of sodium if 150 ml of 0.45% NS is infused.
3 - 1000 ml of D51/2Ns contains 50 grams of dextrose
ie 250 ml of D51/2NS will have 12.5 grams of dextrose
Total amount of fluid to be infused = 250 ml per hour for 4 hours
ir 250 * 4 = 1000 ml
125 * 4 = 50 grams
Answer is 50 grams
