Discuss in detail how Trimeric G-protein signaling pathways would be influenced by the following:
Consider cells treated with a drug that enhances the ability of the Trimeric G-protein to associate with GTP
- How would this drug affect the concentration of Ca+ in cells? please explain reasoning
The overall concentration of Ca2+ in the cell will increase of the drug enhance the ability of trimeric G protein to associate with GTP. Because if the GTP remains attached G protein, the complex of Gq-protein will remain activated. So, phospholipase C will continuously act on PIP2 to break into DAG and IP3. IP3 will remain binds to it's receptors on Endoplasmic reticulum and thus release calcium ions into the cell through Calcium ion release channels. There will be no need of any ligand to bind to GPCR if this drug is given which enhance the ability of G protein to remain associate with GTP. Please find the normal pathway steps of this mechanism:
