The user of a computer system does not sit in isolation. Users are affected by the people around them and by another task that they must also accomplish at the same time they use a computer system. Sociotechnical systems analysis thus focuses on the way interactions among humans restrict or shape interactions between humans and technology. People are part of many new information and communica- tion system. The web of interactions needed to make anything work in a complex organization always involves humans solving problems with limited resources and working around imperfect processes.
