Canada- please research the culture, i.e. : social structure, language, communication, religion, values and attitudes. How the culture of Canada affects doing business there.
Overall, Canadians are friendly people and slightly more reserved than their counterparts in the South. Respect, stability and good governance are largely the principles of the world. Be sure that, by learning the fundamentals of Canadian courtesy, you do not offend a business colleague or dash the chances of winning a contract. It is a good idea to treat all individuals with courtesy and reverence, including individuals with authority. You should not behave so modest, though.
The usual contact when meeting a business associate first is a
firm handshake. With a handshake, both men and women greet you,
even though women may recognise you with a head nod rather than a
handshake.
For first encounters in social settings, shaking hands is often
prevalent. If they are related or good friends, men and women often
embrace and kiss lightly on the cheek when meeting. Men may embrace
old friends or family formally.
In Quebec, when meeting and leaving, buddies or friends will kiss
on both cheeks. This exists between female and male mates, but not
between male friends.
In manner, voice, and fashion, Canadian entrepreneurs are traditional. Company customs are identical to those of the United States or the United Kingdom, but protocol is very critical. Generally, unnecessary body touch, greeting motions, or loud talk are frowned upon.
Often be punctual for meetings and appointments to ease the way into Canadian favour; use names in all correspondence; and carry letters of introduction while meeting anyone for the first time.
U.S. entrepreneurs should be careful of believing that Canadians are exactly like Americans, which is an expectation that Canadians might find offensive.
