what are some examples of rational choice theory?
Rational choice theory can be considered as the view that people
behave as they do as they believe that doing or performing their
chosen desired actions has more importance than costs. It means
people start making rational choices which is based on their goals,
and their those choices govern their behavior. Some sociologists
also uses those rational choice theory to explain those social
change. According to them, social change occurs when individuals
start making rational choices.
For example, suppose many other people begin to conserve more
energy, by driving less and lowering thermostats. An explanation
for this social change is which the individual people get decided
that conserving energy will not only help them to achieve their
goals (for example, save money and live more healthfully) and even
will cause little inconvenience. Critics argue people do not always
act on the basis of cost-benefit analyses.
