what are some examples of labeling theory?
A teenager who was caught bunking classes are labeled as a delinquent, which may even less motivate him to attend class, thinking that there's is no positive point in making an effort to attend the class as everyone expects him not to be there in the class. Due to skipped class, he is also unaware of assigned homework, and so also even fails to turn for the assignment, thus propagating the idea and labelled tag of being a delinquent student.
Imagine two married men are away on business trips. Both men actually have an affair while on trip, but the thing is only one of the married man get caught, and word gets back to his wife and even his family also got back home. He certainly isn't the only married man who keeps an affair but the actual fact that he got caught then when people start to 'make something' out of his behavior. It is possible that the man who was caught will be labeled and will develops the stigma as a result of behavior. The man who was not caught will not develop this stigma as his actions has gone unnoticed. This is actually finding someone's actions and labelling it..
