Bell's palsy is caused due to damage to facial nerve which
results in asymmetrical facial muscle paralysis.
Nursing care management for Bell's palsy includes :
1. Educating the patient about his condition, cause for the
pathology and the treatment required.
2. Encourage the patient to adhere to the medical treatment and
timely administration of medicines.
3. Nurse should provide the patient with eyecare such as eye drops
to keep the eyes moist. Ensure that the patient eyes are closed
while sleeping.
4. Enourage the patient to use wrap around goggles to prevent
direct exposure of eye to sun and pollution.
5. Provide frequent oral care as the food may get accumulated
between the cheeks and teeth on affected side.
6. Encourage patient to chew from the unaffected side.
7. Encourage patient to have semi solid and easily chewable
food.
8. Teach patient gentle face massage to improve to e of affected
muscles.
9. Teach the patient facial muscle exercises to strengthen the face
muscles.
10. ensure that the patient face and ears are not exposed to cold
air. Teach patient to cover his ears while going out in air.
