How does amish culture shape the parents views of death and dying?
These are ancient Amish customs for the living way of life which is totally different from the other religions. According to the amish culture the parents views of death and dying is totally different. For the Amish, when a person died they are no longer present there. It is believed that they have gone to be with God. Further the Amish funeral focus on the goodness and praise for God, than focusing on the person. Moreover on death the body is washed and properly clothed by the family members. There is a specific dress for both men and women. The men in a white vest, white pants & shirt as well as women in a long white dress, cap and apron. It is tried that the cap and apron should be same as she wore on her wedding day. There is no applied makeup, it is plain and simple. And it is seen that after the 3 days of the death the person is buried as it takes 3 days to dig the grave. The funeral is attended by the friends and family members having the black dress. And the close members of the family wear the black for a year. It is also seen in the amish culture that the grief is always taken as private they do not show the emotions. At the end the name of the dead person is mentioned along with the birth and death date.
Thus it is seen that amish culture shape the parents views of death and dying in a very specific and exclusive manner than the other existing religions.
