What role does "social exclusion" play in a group?
Social exclusion is basically a condition in which a person or people feel that they have been excluded from a social group. In this, person is significantly blocked from all the resources or opportunity related to that particular group.
A study, Twenge et al.(2007) was done and obtained the results that indicate when people experience social exclusion, they eventually adopt a cautious attitude towards social relations. They are reluctant to expose themselves to the further vulberable situation of exclusion. They want to have good relations with people but they have been recently rejected, they protect themselves by adopting this attitude.
Same study also claims that socially excluded people also feel less empathy towards others and less likely to do any efforts for making further relations, as they are too busy and trying to deal with their own vulnerable situation. Social exclusion is also a potential trigger for aggression indicated by the same study.
Social exclusion basically have adverse effects on psychological, emotional and behaviour of people.
People who have been excluded together from a group, generally make a group for themselves, a common identity group.
