In qualitative nursing research , researcher collects and organize data using sensory methods such as listening or observing and form patter or theme, whereas in quantitative research,numbers are used to measure variables such as chareteristics,things.
In qualitative research, methods of collection of data includes focus group, interviews and unstructured observations,while in quantitative research data collection is by survey, document review,and questionnaire and analyses data with statistical methods.
Data in qualitative research is mainly words, narrative description or ideas, while in quantity research, it is statistical.
Researcher in qualitative research participate as observer, whereas in quantitative research, researcher does not participate.
Philosophy of approach in qualitative nursing research is interpretive, humanistic and naturalistic.Reality of the topic and its chareteristics, value of the study in research, and how knowledge counts are main assumptions of philosophy in qualitative research.
On the otherhand,in quantitative research, the researcher is being independent from what he is studied and they do not take part in study.Research must not be influenced by the value of the researcher.
