How would you best use counseling skills to support a breastfeeding family when their baby has one of the health issues listed below?
1. Baby with an allergy to something coming through its mother’s milk
2. Gastroesophageal reflux disease
1. In this to support the brestfeeding family if the baby is having any reported sign of allergy coming through the mothers milk there is need of proper counselling regarding the best care.
Then it advisable to find the route cause of the food or dairy allegy, it may be the case of lactose intolerance.
Babies can develop allergies to the special food that the mother is eating while on breastfeeding. Hence such foods shoulds be avoided.Hence its a major task to identify the major food from the baby is getting allergic.
In this case the mother is advised to take the balance died and if possible avoid taking canned dairy products.
2. Usually it is seen that infants have a problem of splitting after a meal. This is known as gastroesophogeal reflux. And when it is followed by frequent vomiting and discomfort in the upper oesophagus then its regarded as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
It is advisable to find the food in mothers and babies diet responsible for this.
Mothers are advised to avoid more acidic food and beverages. Mothers are specially recommended to avoid or reduce the diets containing the dairy products, caffeine, and spices in their diet while on breast-feeding. There is need to maintain the proper body posture of the baby while on the breastfeeding as it avoids such cases.
