Capacity Design

Within a structural system, there will be several objects. Certain objects are known as ductile components and certain other objects are known as brittle components. Ductile components are those objects in a structural system which are allowed to work and yield whereas brittle components have to be stay elastic. Such a structural designing is known to be Capacity Design.

Ductile components are designed in a manner so that it can attain displacement based demand-capacity ratio. It means those components can be deformed at any stage.

Brittle components are designed in a manner in order to attain strength based demand-capacity ratio. It means those will be very strong and not made in an intention to be deformed.

Here, in this question, certain structural system have been given related to Pizza hut restaurant. Capacity Design of those structural system is mentioned below:-

Material Handling Equipment

These are equipments used for the movement, storage and protection of the materials in manufacturing, distribution, sale at cetera. It is a mechanical equipment. Usually, it helps more for shifting the goods from one area of an outlet to another. In a pizza hut, the material handling equipment should have enough capacity and in number in order to deliver to the needed customers on time. Customers should be served as First in First out method. The equipment should have the capacity to serve within 30-35 minutes.

Work stations

It is the cooking space in this scenario. It should be well arranged with the essentials and in a way to satisfy an average range of customers on a daily basis. Also a pizza cutting table should be arranged in order to reduce wastage and unnecessary costs. Cutting table should be used to cut the pizza as per the specific instructions of the customer.

Human Resources

This is needed to prepare pizzas and delivery of the same. Delivery person should be sufficient in order to deliver the prepared order within 30 minutes. In special occasions, the number of delivery person should be increased depending upon the flow of orders.

Storage areas

The storage areas should have the capacity to store the ingredients in a neat and clean way. It should be furnished in a cost effective manner and in air-tight condition.

Capacity Output

The output level above which the system is not able to effectively produce during it's long run is known as capacity output. Effective capacity depends on average customer count.
