Product Design
Product design is a crucial stage in Operations Management.The design of the product or service has a direct relation to acceptance of the produce by the consumers which further affects the profits. Product design is a conscious effort to design for low manufacturing cost.
There are two levels to product designing-
Functional design- Here decisions are made on dimensions, material used, the final finish and so on.At this stage the designer's concerns are functional considerations, customer appeal, cost and ease of operation and maintenance.
Production design - At this stage, modifications and new concepts are introduced into the product design to make it more suitable for production. Concepts applied at this stage are Standardization, Modular Design & Simplification.
