While this case study did not discuss any of the research currently being done on changes in surgery and the use of anesthesia, including the use of electroencephalogram during surgery to reduce the amount of anesthesia needed, it does ask the question: What contribution can nursing research make to prevent cognitive decline in older adults?
#. Research in nursing can provide an emmense of valid interventions which can be used to prevent the cognitive decline in elderly population. Like the way nurses are an important part of healthcare services , research in nursing is also an important platform where we come to know about certain patient centered interventions based on needs which are effective with no side effects and cost effective too.
Researchs on topics like encouraging the act of reminiscence can be highly beneficial to maintain their cognitive function and their interpersonal skills. Reminiscence involves exchanging memories with the caregivers and professionals and passing on information, wisdom, and skills. It aids the elderly in maintaining a sense of value, importance, and belonging. Other Nursing research topics like effects of cognitive and physical activity , social engagement , therapeutic nutrition etc on the cognitive functioning of the elderly population will help to find out or evolve many new interventions which will be evidence based and can be implemented easily in the daily care to optimize cognition in older adults.
