• assuring an adequate local public health infrastructure,

• promoting healthy communities and healthy behaviors,

• preventing the spread of communicable disease,

• protecting against environmental health hazards,

- Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. This work is achieved by promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases. Public health also works to limit health disparities.

Preventing the Spread of communicable Diseases:

Decrease the risk of infecting yourself or others: Wash your hands often. This is especially important before and after preparing food, before eating and after using the toilet.
Proper hand washing is the most effective way to prevent the spread of infections in hospitals. If you are a patient, don't be afraid to remind friends, family and health care providers to wash their hands before getting close to you.
