Why are rates important in community health?, Why do you think life expectancy, YPLL, DALYs, and HALE are more informative than simple mortality and morbidity rates?, What role do you think epidemiology plays in your life?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Rates are important for comparing illness with different cities..It concerned with numbers..The number of cases (sick), the number of deaths alone not enough to provide a description of the extent of the disease in a community..In community health epidemiologist must know the total number of population so that rates can be calculated..The rate is a number of events that is death, birth, disease among populations in a period at a given point in time..

Life expectancy,YPLL,DALYs,and HALE are more informative than simple mortality and mobility rates..because leading causes of death for the entire population does not provide a clear picture of the health information in any segment of the population..

Life expectancy companies interested in it at every age, health statisticians are concerned with this at birth,at the age of 65 years and 75 years..life expectancy can not describe the quality of life.it control some of these factors that contribute to early deaths..

Years of potential life lost(YPLL) is calculating by subtracting a person's age at death from his or her life expectancy..75 years of age is increasingly being used to calculate YPLL because life expectancy for a child born today is closer to 75 years..many people living longer, death prior to 65 years considered a premature death..

Disability- adjusted life years:

Mortality does not entirely express the burden of disease..WHO and world bank developed a measure called the disability--adjusted life years (DALYs)..DALY is for a given condition for a particular population can be calculated by estimating YPLL and the total years of life lived with disability..

Health-adjusted life expectancy (HALE) is a number of years of healthy life expected,on Average in a given population of the world..

Epidemiology play a important role bin our life because epidemiologist can carry out investigation when disease and death occurs in unexpected and unacceptable numbers..This study helpful for identifying relationship between health problems and possible risk factors among healthy group people..this is useful for early prevention..

Along with interest rates, life expectancy is a component in pricing financial annuities. Suppose that you know that last year average life expectancy was 77 years for your annuity holders. Now you want to know if your clients this year have a longer life expectancy, on average, so you randomly sample n=20 of your recently deceased annuity holders to see actual age at death. Using a 5% level of significance, test whether or not the new data shows evidence of...
