Adolescence is a unique period characterised by mental , physical as well as emotional changes. About 20% of adolescents suffer from mental health probkems which remains undiagnosed and untreated. Sucides are one of the leading causes of death among adolescent age group.
Adolescents who are emotionally labile and fail to cope up with stressful situations develop sucidal tendencies. Precipitating factors could be family turmoil, rejection, decreased grades or failure in exams , conflicts with family and friends.

Adolescents who are stressed and has anxiety are more prone to develop such destructive thoughts. Although family history for the same can also contribute to such thoughts. Such adolescents fail to interact freely and remain isolated.Tgey might have dejected feeling.

Communication is the best remedy. Proper conversation and development of a level of trust can lead to supression of such thoughts.

Promoting healthy lifestyle including proper diet and exercise can allay depression and instill a sense of well-being.

Further, discouraging self isolation , frequent healthy discussions, paying attention to likes and dislikes of teens and seeking supportive treatment plan can prevent them bfrom falling prey to sucide.
