in your own words what are the challenges of juvenile delinquency, depression and suicide for adolescents. If a teen between the ages of 13-16 commits a serious crime like rape or murder should they be charged as an adult why or why not??
The main challenges of juvenile delinquency, depression and suicide for adolescents are the condition of their families and the type of parenting they have been encountering since their birth. A family environment where the parents exhibits criminal practices, fights at home, drinks and damages thinks or beats the child, beats the child as a displacement of aggression or a family which is too economically poor to carry on the basic expenses of the child may make the children prone to behaviours which are not normal or accepted in society. Firstly, these children may get into depression due to the environment they were in and gradually may go on committing suicide. Some may suffer from conduct disorder and go on to exhibit criminal behaviours and thus becoming a juvenile delinquent.
According to the law, a teen of age 13-16 will be sent to a juvenile detention centre for their mental treatment and further education. Though it is true that rape or murders are very heinous crimes yet I feel that every human being must be given a chance to mend his or her mistakes and come clean. In case of these teens, their criminal behaviours are a result of their genetics and the criminal or unhealthy environment in which they have been brought up. Thus, we cannot blame them for their crime completely though they have committed it. Their crimes are due to their own acts as well as due to the faulty learnings they have received from their unhealthy upbringing. Thus, these teens must be given atleast one chance to mend their mistakes as we can't bring back the dead but we can improve a criminal instead of killing him legally. I feel that these teens should not be charged as adults and must be treated well ans it must be taken into consideration that focus should be given in revolutionizing their inner psyche.
