What are the differences between qualitative and quantitative data and analysis in interface and GUI development ??

Qualitative data:Qualitative research is descriptive and it tries to answer the question what and why. It provides narrative style of reports and uses pictures and images to explain things. It seeks to understand the reasons and motivation behind an event or person. It explores the reasons for something ans it normally leads to quantitative research. If the research is about why people eat out, it becomes qualitative because it looks for explanations for some behaviour.

• Concerned with understanding human behaviour from the informant's prespective.
• Data are collected through participant observation and interviews.
• Data are analysed by themes from descriptions by informants.
• Data are reported in the language of the informant.

Quantitative Data: Quantitative Data seeks to explain how many and how much. It is concerned about facts and numbers. It depicts them in charts and tables. It always relies on measurable data.

• Concerned with discovering facts about social phenomena.
• Data are collected through measuring things.
• Data are analused through numerical comparison and statistical inferences.
• Data are reported through statistical analyses.
