At first hip hop started playing in China at nightclubs in its initial days. In 1992 they started gettig their regular hip hop night exposures on a regular basis The first hip hop club there was established in 1994. It got tremendour media support and responsiveness from the audience. After Eminem's movie in 2002, hip hop culture took a different turn in China in terms of its popularity and demand. Movies played a great role in creating hip hop's niche in Chinese culture at the time. Rappers of Chinese heritage created their mark even in the States where a rapper Jin from Miami started gaining popularity. Big zoo in China which is popular in their culture also started using this as a medium to speak their thoughts and ideas, to express and attempt to make a change regarding their problems and experiences. The popularity of this team began going down the drain when one of its team members decided to walk out on them.
The beginning of hip hop and rap in China began once the rural and urban youth gained access to them and connected to it's rythm. Large number of crowds are drawn to popular places and clubs in Beijing where they are played. The culture of morality and self restraint was completely challenged by the new culture of hip hop and rap that emerged and that still takes place on a large scale by appealing to its masses in the nation. So in that sense, yes this new culture emerging in China did challenge the already existing age old heritage, values and belief systems in place.
