Answer the following questions in approximately 150 words per response:
1) In what ways does the film, La Haine, illustrate some of the challenges faced by immigrant youth in Paris? Choose a scene or two that describe these challenges.
La Haine literally meaning hatred breeds hatred is a French black and white drama. It is set in Paris, in the aftermath of a riot. The story is about three friends in their early adulthood, living in a poor multi-ethnic French housing project.
The film projects some of the challenges faced by immigrant youth in Paris. For example, Hubert is an Afro-French Boxer whose gym was burned in the riots. He is the quietest of all and feels the situation very gravely, He mentions his desire to leave the world of violence.
Another scene shows, Abdel Ichaha has been wounded by the police shortly before the riot and he goes to coma. In the meantime Vinz finds a policeman's revolver and promises himself that he would kill a cop if Abdel dies. Later on Abdel's death, Vinz turns extremely violent.
Many scenes where they have shown the endless police scrutinies, them meeting others facing the same situation, facing racial and physical abuse, etc portray a very realistic picture of Paris at the time of riots.
