A short visit to HMT

Once I visited a watch manufacturing unit in an industrial area of Kerala India. It was located at a place known as Kochi in Kerala,India. That city was the industrial capital of a small state of India. There were several industries including it industries located in and around the city.

This watch making unit is known as HMT( Hindustan machine tools) which is popular in making watches, situated at a planned area of 50 acres of land at kochi.

In this 50 acres of land the manufacturing units of different parts of the watches were  built. All these buildings were very huge. And in all this huge buildings separate machinery is installed in order to produce different parts of watches.

There were around 5000 labourers working inside the plant in three shifts of 8 hours. Labourers of different kinds with different abilities are working in different plants here. There were skilled workers non skilled workers supervisors and managers among them.

All were hard working and seems very enthusiastic in completion of their works in the factory. All layers of workers works hard in order to produce fine quality of watches.

The factory was listed as a public limited company of Government of Kerala. Government of Kerala directly, with the help of a separate board, manages HMT.

They found out capital to run the industry both from government sources as well as by issuing shares with public. It is also known from the staff and the general  public that this company is running  in profit from last several years.

Through the visit of a production facility called HMT in a state of India was provided me a wonderful experience of organising land labour and capital in order to produce watches in an outstanding manner. That experience was ever memorable and stil memories are there in my mind.
