Have you ever had to negotiate your salary? Have you
ever had to negotiate any pay or benefits? If so, what worked? What
didn't work? What would you recommend a friend do if they are going
into salary negotiations?A California law was passed in 2017 that
bans employers from asking about salary history. Will this help
negotiations or hurt one of the negotiating parties? Who will have
more power because of this law?
Yes I negotiated my salary . According to your qualifications and skills you should negotiate your salary with the employer to increase the salary .
If you have the skills and you ensure that you will be an asset for the institution . You would lead to growth of the institution . Then you have changed that by negotiation you would convince the employer to increase your salary.
I would recommend the friend that if he or she has good work experience and positive profile background then they should definitely go for salary negotiation .
If there is a ban on employer's end to ask about salary history. Then it depends who will have more power on negotiations : the employer or an employee .
If you being an employee is talented and have good work experience then even if you were not paid good in the previous firm . You have the chances that you might negotiate and get the increased salary .
But if you don't have appropriate skills and the confident . Then in that case the employer may have the power . Then negotiation would not work for you.
