Security is a concerted national effort to prevent terrorist
attacks within the United States, reduce America's vulnerability to
terrorism, and minimize the damage amd recover from attacks that do
occur. The Department of Homeland Security was created following
the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, that killed a “total
of 2,977 people in New York City, Washington, D.C. and outside of
Shanksville, Pennsylvania.”
