Sacred space is traditionally understood as the opposite of profane or everyday space and is seen as qualitatively different. Many protestant churches have lost any connection with this part of religious experience. At the same time, as the technological revolution increasingly finds ways to transcend distance, making space almost irrelevant, there is often little relationship between myth and place. How will these changes affect the way that sacred space is understood?

Profanity and Obscenity is a relative term. What may seem profane to some cultures, to other cultures it may just be a cultural norm. So, technology can indeed go a long way in re-defining what is a sacred space and in the context of which is understood.

In the common understanding a places is considered sacred when the mind can be at rest and concentration comes easily to people in whatever they are doing. Thus, it may not necessarily be a church, it could also be a kitchen for a home-maker, office or work staton for a office goer, or a work studio foran artist.

Once the mind is at rest, the human intellect gets the space to create something really magnificient either within them or outside them, which is why places used to be called as sacred and not because of the presence of certain idols or tombs. It was meant to be a purely a space consecrated for the purpose of resting mind in peace and enhance concentration.
