6) Explain the difference between the five types of masks
7) what is pulse oximetry
8) what is important to check for during portable nebulizer treatment?
6) answer:
Mask is placed over the nose in order to provide artificial oxygen when breathing is impaired in a client , it helps to deliver oxygen into the patient's lungs which is attatched to oxygen cylinder or central connection.
Types of masks are and difference between them are:-
1. Simple face mask
2. Reservoir mask
3. Tracheostomy mask
4. Venturi mask.
5 .Laryngea mask airway
1.) Simple face mask---------- A simple face mask is used to deliver higher concentration of oxygen upto 40 to 60% , it is a mask which is placed over the nose and fitted snnugly with the help of curved metal strap on the top of mask , there is some exhaler at the sides of mask which helps to remove carbon dioxide and also helps in mixing atmospheric air with the oxygen .
2.) Reservoir mask ---------- partial re breather or non re breather mask are considered reservoir mask , it delivers higher concentration of oxygen and is used for patient with serious respiratory conditions. 70 to 90 % from partial non re breather mask , they resemble like simple face mask the only difference is that it has attatched reservoir bag , reservoir bag prevents outside air to enter.
3) Tracheostomy mask--------- an item designed to protect opening made by surgeon into the trachea to prevent from collapse of lungs by delivering oxygen through tacheostomy mask attatched to oxygen supply.
4.Venturi mask---------.
It's an air entertainment mask used to deliver oxygen in controlled way , it is a medical device has a metre attatched to it which delivers oxygen along with humidification. It delivers 100% oxygen to the patient with controlled amount of room air 21% . Commonly available masks deliver 24%, 28% ,31%,35%40% of oxygen .
5. Laryngeal mask airway-------- also known as lma or laryngeal mask , it is used to maintain patients airway open in emergency or unconsciousness, it is an airway tube connects to elliptical mask With a cuff inserted through patient's mouth, down the wind pipe , Once deployed it form an airtight seal over glottis, allowing a secure airway that can be managed by healthcare providers .
7.) Answer
PULSE OXIMETER_________An oxymeter used to measure the oxygen concentration in the hemoglobin in pulsating vessels like tip of fingers or ear .
8.) Answer.
It is important to check cord and plugs , there should not be any short circuit, or to check whether fumes are being formed or not , check for aerosol fumes formed by drugs by closing top of medicine chamber with finger.
And also check kinking of tubings before admistring drugs to the patient by portable nebuliser.
