When naming and writing molecular formulas do you use the prefixes and when you name ionic compounds and formulas you write the formula based off of their ion charges?

Solutions

Expert Solution

A:- Naming Organic Compounds:

Yes, if the organic compounds has twwo different functional groups, the name of main (first grade) fuctional group is written in 20 suffix, second grade fuctional group is written in 20 prefix.

Example: 2-hydroxy propanal (CH3CHOHCHO)

Naming of Ionic Compounds:

In the case ionic copounds, we just write formula of ionic compounds to balance their charges, no need to write their oxidation states.

Example: AlCl3 (Aluminium chloride), Pb(NO3)2 (lead nitrate).

In the case of coordination compounds we have to write the oxidation state of metal ion in numerical letters within a braket

Example: [Co(NO2)3(NH3)3] => Triamminetrinitrocobalt(III). => III is the oxidation state of Co metal ion.

One needs to be careful when writing formulas for simulation.   "=round( rand() * 6, 0)"  will take a value uniformly distributed between 0 and 1, multiply it by 6, and round it to the nearest integer. Using that formula, what is the probability of getting 6?  (Note: probability is a number between 0 and 1; give your answer to three decimal places.) Hint: rand() is uniformly distributed from 0 to 1. Hence rand()*6 is uniformly distributed from 0 to 6. Only values above...
