Nursing care plan for cystic fibrosis includes measures to remove pulmonary secretions, maintain adequate oxygen supply, stressing the importance of sufficient fluid and dietary intake, ensuring an adequate nutrition, and preventing complications. The 5 conditions requiring nursing care plan are :
1. Impaired gas exchange: monitor respiratory status at regular intervals, provide chest physiotherapy, ensure proper rest between activities, give oxygen therapy as indicated.
2. Ineffective airway clearance: provide effective coughing and airway clearance technique. Give bronchodialtors and mucolytics as indicated. Provide postural drainage and chest physiotherapy.
3. Inadequate nutrition: encourage adequate fluid intake, high fibre diet, salt rich diet, high calorie diet, high protein intake, fat soluble vitamins and pancreatic enzymes.
4. Deficient knowledge: make patient aware about the disease, hos cndition and measures needed to be taken to avoid exaggeration of symptoms.
5. Infections: monitor respiratory status, regularly analyse the sputum, provide oral or i.v. antibiotics.
