Check all valid statements relative to bonding.
◻ covalent bonds "share" electrons between atoms
◻ metallic bonds have localized electron clouds about atoms
◻ ionic bonding involves coulombic attraction
◻ ionic bonds involve charge transfer
◻ covalent bonds are weak and easily broken
◻ metallic bonds facilitate high electron conductivity
Statement 1) Yes, Covalent bond forms by sharing of electrons between the 2 bonded atoms. Bonded atoms share each other’s valence electrons to complete either duplet or octet state to attain stability. The covalent bond predominantly forms in similar atoms like H-H, Cl-Cl etc. called non polar covalent bonds. Also between the atoms with small electronegativity difference e.g. C-H. C-Cl these are called polar covalent bonds.
Statement 2) No, in metallic bonding electrons are not localized or confined to single atom but they are delocalized over the entire metal.
Statement 3) Yes, Ionic bond is the coloumbic interaction between oppositely charged species. Ionic species forms by the complete transfer of electrons from one atom to anathor in order to gain stability by attaining duplet or octet state.
Statement 4) No, covalent bonds are very strong.
Statement 5) Yes. Metals are highly electropositive elements. They have many electrons in their valence shell which are highly shielded by inner electrons from nucleus and hence free to get out of kernel and freely flowing (Delocalized). On application of electricity they flow in unidirection and said to be conducting electricity.
