Different types of bonds including ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds. Describe each type of bond and come up with an analogy to help describe each type of bond. For example: “A ______ bond is like [insert everyday example of something you might experience in the normal everyday world like kids sharing or a parking lot]“.

Solutions

Expert Solution

IONIC Bond : Ionic bonding is the complete transfer of valence electron(s) between atoms. It is a type of chemical bond that generates two oppositely charged ions. In ionic bonds, the metal loses electrons to become a positively charged cation, whereas the nonmetal accepts those electrons to become a negatively charged anion.

For example : suppose that there are two kids having lunch boxes. One is healthier (an electronegative atom) is more hungry (needs electrons). Therefore another kid who is a skinny child (don't require the same amount of food as the fatter kid) gives some of his food to the fat kid and thus gets a respect/generosity in the eyes of the fatter kid (positive charge on the skinny guy)

COVALENT Bond : A covalent bond, also called a molecular bond, is a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. These electron pairs are known as shared pairs or bonding pairs, and the stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms, when they share electrons, is known as covalent bonding.

For example : if two kid brought there own lunch and they like eachothers lunch too, they they will share there food.

METALLIC Bond : Metallic bonding is a type of chemical bonding that rises from the electrostatic attractive force between conduction electrons and positively charged metal ions. It may be described as the sharing of free electrons among a structure of positively charged ions.

For example : if there is plenty of food left(say electrons excessive than usually required for stability) then it is given to all the children so that they can be happier and satisfied and unified together
