Explain in detail the following terms; e-health, m-health, e-therapy, telemedicine, and telehealth and discuss how these fields will continue to expand. Please cute your sources and explain in detail. Thank you.
e-health
eHealth is a broad term, and refers to the use of information and
communications technologies in healthcare. eHealth covers a lot of
territory, which is why digital health industry experts often
contest exactly what the term means – and to add to the confusion,
it’s also frequently used as a synonym for Health IT. e-health
encompasses much of medical informatics but tends to prioritise the
delivery of clinical information, care and services rather than the
functions of technologies.
m-health
m-health is a term used for the practice of medicine and public
health supported by mobile devices. mHealth is a component of
eHealth. To date, no standardized definition of mHealth has been
established. For the purposes of the survey, the Global Observatory
for eHealth (GOe) defined mHealth or mobile health as medical and
public health practice supported by mobile devices, such as mobile
phones, patient monitoring devices, personal digital assistants
(PDAs), and other wireless devices. mHealth involves the use and
capitalization on a mobile phone’s core utility of voice and short
messaging service (SMS) as well as more complex functionalities and
applications including general packet radio service (GPRS), third
and fourth generation mobile telecommunications (3G and 4G
systems), global positioning system (GPS), and Bluetooth
technology.
e-therapy
e-therapy is a term that has been coined to describe the process of
interacting with a therapist online in ongoing conversations over
time when the client and counselor are in separate or remote
locations and utilize electronic means to communicate with each
other. It is a relatively new modality of assisting individuals
resolve life and relationship issues. e-therapy utilizes the power
and convenience of the internet to allow simultaneous (synchronous)
and time-delayed (asynchronous) communication between an individual
and a professional. For the purposes of this paper, e-therapy is
defined as a licensed mental health care professional providing
mental health services via e-mail, video conferencing, virtual
reality technology, chat technology, or any combination of these.
It does not include self-help methods such as public bulletin
boards or private listservs. e-therapy is not psychotherapy or
psychological counseling per se since it does to presume to
diagnose or treat mental or medical disorders. However, e-therapy
is flexible enough to also address many difficulties which clients
present to the online therapist. As in other types of therapy, such
as bibliotherapy, occupational therapy, and rehabilitation
therapy), e-therapy does assist a person in addressing specific
concerns with specific skills.
telemedicine
Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication and information
technology to provide clinical health care from a distance. It has
been used to overcome distance barriers and to improve access to
medical services that would often not be consistently available in
distant rural communities. It is also used to save lives in
critical care and emergency situations. These technologies permit
communications between patient and medical staff with both
convenience and fidelity, as well as the transmission of medical,
imaging and health informatics data from one site to another. Early
forms of telemedicine achieved with telephone and radio have been
supplemented with videotelephony, advanced diagnostic methods
supported by distributed client/server applications, and
additionally with telemedical devices to support in-home care.
telehealth
Telehealth is a collection of means or methods for enhancing health
care, public health, and health education delivery and support
using telecommunications technologies. Telehealth encompasses a
broad variety of technologies and tactics to deliver virtual
medical, health, and education services.
