Explain the following terms in relation to antibiotic
therapy
1) Identification of the infecting organism
2) Drug susceptibility
3) Host factors
4) Empiric Therapy
Answer: 1) Identification of the infecting organism: This could be defined as process to identifying the bacteria through systematic process by using different techniques. This helps the physicians to treat patients correctly after knowing which kind of bacteria has caused disease. The choice of drug is given to the patient according to the type of bacteria and it's action.
2) Drug susceptibility: Susceptibility means when the harmful microbes can not further grow in the presence of the drug. It means that the drug is acting upon the target microbe or the bacteria.
3) Host factors: It can be defined as the factors which affecr the action or the susceptibility to the disease on comparing to the other individuals.
4) Empiric Therapy: It is a kind of medical treatment against the anticipated microorganisms or the harmful bacteria which cause disease. Hence the drug act on the bacteria and prevent the growth of the disease.
