An occupational are other than sports in which African Americans have tended to be overpresented, and for similar reasons, is
African- Americans are overrepresented in a number of occupations. In a recent study by UCLA it has been found that 92% of all Television characters are of African American origin. In another study it has been found that 33% of African American women are doing job in management. As a matter of fact African American workforce is more prevalent mainly in sectors like – ‘community and social service’ and ‘protective services’. These two sectors are neither high nor low-wage sectors. After the Great Recession the workforce of African American decent has been stable and overrepresented in these two sectors. Otherwise, African American workforce is more employed in low wage sectors but not that prolific in high wage sector. The reason for getting low wage job is that they go for majors in subjects which do not pay back in return so, because of wrong educational choices they end up getting overrepresented in low wage jobs. Overall, it may be said that yes, there is an overrepresentation of African American workforce in many of the sectors and not only in sports.
