I am a researcher and interested in looking at how breast cancer and diabetes rates have changed between 2003-2012.
A. Provide with a rationale what scientific field of research I would be investigating? (5)
B. What organization would I probably go to in order to answer my question? (5)
C. Provide with a rationale if the data would be archival or prospective? (5)
D. Go to the organizational website and do a search and find out how mortality rates have changed for breast cancer between 2003-2012 years. Include the link or page you got this information from (5)
E. For diabetes provide with a rationale if you would tend to be more interested in looking at morbidity or mortality rates during this time period. (5)
A. Provide with a rationale what scientific field of research I would be investigating?
In order to check if women having diabetes, when affected by breast cancer would have a good survival or will it worsen. And this could be compared to women having breast cancer without having diabetes. This would be happening because there might be a more aggressive strain of breast cancer subtype, and this is in comparison with the insulin dependence of women.
B. What organization would I probably go to in order to answer my question?
In order to answer the question,q person can go to NCBI website, in the pub Med central, which would be able to give me the most appropriate information.
C. Provide with a rationale if the data would be archival or prospective?
This is a retrospective or archival study. It cannot be possible to give a prospective study in this case, since actually people cannot be given diabetes or cancer to study their risk in the ongoing study. Hence, this is an archival study.
D. There have been constant decrease in the mortality rates from 1975-2010. Though there have not been any changes or decline in the incidences of breast cancer, but mortality has decreased. The decrease in mortality is due to improved techniques such as mammography, which can detect the condition early on. The data can be found in the following article “Why have breast cancer mortality rates declined?”, at sciencedirect.
E. For diabetes provide with a rationale if you would tend to be more interested in looking at morbidity or mortality rates during this time period.
Morbidity rates are where the disease is caused. For diabetes, morbidity rate would be monitored rather than mortality rates because mortality is not as evident in the diabetes condition.
