Auditory perception can be defined as the ability to receive and interpret information that reaches the ears through audible frequency waves through air. Auditory processing disabilty is a kind of disorder due to which individuals may have difficulty with auditory discrimination of sounds and separate them into words. This is necessary for normal learning process. Besides sound wave properties, sensory and brain processes play a vital role in sound perception. In our brain, sound is percieved by the auditory cortex, which is a part of the temporal lobe. Several small neurons located here are responsible for the processing of auditory information. Any damage to these neurons can disturb the hearing process. Hence, a laceration in the temporal auditory cortex may affect the perception of sound and thus make it difficult to percieve and process the order of simple sounds across time. This will make it impossible to understand words and sentences.
