Communication is defined as the process by which people exchange information, feelings, and meanings through verbal and non-verbal message.Non verbal communication is as effective as using your voice. A person's body language, facial expressions, gestures, touch, eye contact and a person's posture and are all means of communicating.

Maintaining eye contact while with patients helps build rapport, it shows they are being listened to. The way you look at a person can mean that you are interested in what they have to say which helps keep the flow of conversation going.

Touch is another cue of non-verbal communications. It also helps in indicating a person's feelings or expressions, closeness, and illustrates characteristics of that person. A firm and stiff handshake or warm and lovely hug signify obviously different than a loose one.

Also,you should be presentable.and let your appearance speak for you. Don’t allow sloppy dress, haphazard hair, or distracting jewelry drown out your message of communication.Facial expressions include smiling, frowning, eye rolling, making eye contact also helps in communication.

Also,the tone of your voice is important when engaging in conversation; your voice can be a giveaway as to how your feeling and also the volume at which we speak are all important elements of communicating. Listening and attending to your patient, engaging in the conversation, sharing experiences, and having good body language makes communication more effective and makes work more enjoyable. Sometimes the smallest gesture like offering to get a cup of tea when a patient is down can build on that relationship.

Thus,Working well with your patients is key; it helps to build rapport and makes communication easier for the professional and the patient.
