as a medical/public health professional what are some of the considerations one must make when communicating cross-culturally? What does it mean to be culturally sensitive?
when communicating cross-culturally it is very importantand necessaryto have a fair idea about the culture of the opposite person. The health care professional should be ready to accept the cultures and he or she should understand that whatever he or she talks to the client should be within the cultural belief, then only they will accept the health care strategies which the health care professional planned to do.Also expect the denial of many things what she explain to them, and should be ready to accept the things which they are talking. Also keep in mind that it is very difficult to make the paerson to chnage their thoughts reagarding certain disease conditions especially if the thought is generated culturally. The health care professional has to take more and more efforts to make the client understand and accept the treatment regiem for the better outcome. Also it is undeniable that the elderly people are more stick to the cultures and very acerful while talking to them something which is against or out of their cultural beliefs. In conclusion the health care professional should keep certain considerations like prolonged time taking for the effective communications, patients should be their to deal with the clients and should be ready to accept the cultural beievs of the opposite person without affecting the plan of treatment .
Culturally sensitive is nothing but understanding the cultural differanece and behaving accordingly. It is essential to function in a community and to gain the success.
