Uses of ASP.NET in Web layer -

  • Easy setup in windows environment - As ASP.NET belong to product list of Microsoft and the framework is built in environment of windows , that ensures easy setup in Windows OS than any other web development platform such as javascript, php etc.
  • Faster than other web development platform - AS ASP.NET applicationis a compiled application, which actually means the code is first converted to object code and further, this object code is executed. It eliminates the complexity of compiling the code at each instance and can be run any number of times by .net platform.
  • Better than interpreted language - Interpreted codes are slower because the code needs to be read and interpreted before every execution. In compiled code, the code is just compiled once and executed any number of times, also this feature provides quicker execution time and scalability aspect. JavaScript and PHP are some of the examples of interpreted languages.
  • ASP.NET helps to reduce software development cost - It takes a high budget for buying resources used in developing software such as IDEs, server software, hosting software. As ASP.NET can be written using any simple free IDE or a better option is to use Microsoft's visual studio. These eliminates the developer's budget on buying expensive IDE's where as other platform are struggling to get solution for this.
  • ASP.NET works with all database providers such as Microsoft SQL server, MySQL, MongoDB and many more. All above mentioned services can be used for free. Microsoft SQL server is not free when the software requires complex deployments. In that case, MySQL or other mentioned service providers should be used.
  • ASP.NET is built on OOPs paradigm and hence the code is well within criteria to get re-used and the segments are well organised.
  • More importantly, its open source and free to use and can be used to handle the development of a small website to a  very complex software product.
