Elder abuse is any kind of abuse towards an elderly person by anyone who is responsible for take care of them.

TYPES OF ELDER ABUSE

  • Physical abuse :- causing physical pain or damages to elderly person.it may even lead to death.eg:-beating,burning,etc
  • psychological abuse:- intentionally acting to cause emotional or pychological trauma in an aged person.eg:-threatening,humiliating,etc
  • sexual abuse :- it is another kind of physical abuse but here the aged person is abused sexually especially in persons with impaired cognitive function.eg:-unwanted touching to rape
  • economical abuse :- Cheating aged person financially or triying to steal their wealth or assets.
  • abuse from health care workers or system :- if health professionals act unethically they could possibly abuse elderly.eg:-avoiding their call for attention,high billing or unweated biling,etc

NEGLECT

if a person meant to care elderly person fails to do so or chose not to,comes under neglect.

  • basic needs :- neglect of basic needs like food,shelter,dress,etc
  • hygiene:- neglecting elderly persons hygiene and grooming needs
  • treatments:- neglect towards treatment for illness and providing medications.
  • preventing harm:- neglect their need for protection.
  • elder abandoning:- it is a kind of neglect in which the person responsible for protecting the person is abandoning him in an unprotected environment.

Self neglect :- it is a type of neglect when the elderly person himself will not make any arrangements for his care when he understands that he cannot perform those care by himself.
